Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has introduced a bill to remove tax write offs for abortions. The bill, titled the "Abortion Is Not Health Care Act of 2021," would remove some of the financial incentives via tax write-offs that abortion clinics use to continue the practice of abortions.

The bill states:

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that amounts paid for an abortion are not taken into account for purposes of the deduction for medical expenses.

. . .

SEC. 2. AMOUNTS PAID FOR ABORTION NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN DETERMINING DEDUCTION FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES.

(a) In General.—Section 213 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:

“(g) Amounts Paid For Abortion Not Taken Into Account.—An amount paid during the taxable year for an abortion shall not be taken into account under subsection (a).”.

Section 213 is a section in the U.S. Code that pertains to allowable deductions given to medical firms that can be used to deduct from their total taxable income. As of now, the IRS labels an abortion as a tax write off. This effectively makes abortions much more pleasing to people who go through with one, since they can write off the amount from their taxable income each year.

According to Liberty Counsel, these tax breaks cause AMERICAN TAXPAYERS TO FUND ABORTION. In a letter they wrote that was co-signed by more than 100 Congressmen in 2020, they explain how these tax write-offs cause taxpayers to fund abortions through forcing them to pay for health plans that exempt abortions as taxable income. Additionally, they also reportedly cause the government to dole out money for abortions in the form of health reimbursement arrangements because abortions can be labeled as tax write-offs.
