This January, the Democrat-controlled House has introduced new legislation that will regulate personal firearm sales and slow down sales from licensed gun vendors. The new legislation introduces a MANDATORY WAIT PERIOD FOR ALL GUN TRANSFERS, public or private.

The Bill, titled "Gun Safety: Not Sorry Act of 2021" makes it illegal for anyone to transfer a firearm, be it personal or professional, without a mandatory 7-day waiting period. This is also extended to armor-piercing rounds and high capacity magazines.

The text of the Bill states:

To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide for a 7-day waiting period before a semiautomatic firearm, a silencer, armor piercing ammunition, or a large capacity ammunition magazine may be transferred.

However, what is particularly striking is the government has decided it will wade into personal sales of firearms between friends, families, and other transfers. Mandating a 7-day wait period between private parties:

``(aa) It shall be unlawful for a person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, to transfer to another person not so licensed a semiautomatic firearm, a silencer, armor piercing ammunition, or a large capacity ammunition magazine, unless at least 7 business days (meaning a day on which State offices are open) have elapsed since the transferee most recently offered or agreed to acquire the semiautomatic firearm, silencer, ammunition, or magazine, as the case may be, from the transferor.''.

It's unclear where the constitutional right of Congress has them allowed to regulate private transactions between individuals. But making it illegal for a father to give his son a gun unless he waits 7 days between the transaction is extreme overreach.

For many, a father gifting his son a hunting rifle signifies a right of passage. A father and son going hunting together is also considered a right of passage for many. Now the government is encroaching on a time-honored tradition by making it illegal to transfer a firearm unless there's a mandatory waiting period.
